Support Character (Companion) Narrative Design

Character name: Luitwin
Age: 35
Profession/Theme: Warrior Priest Acolyte

Skills/Strengths (Mechanically): Combat, Prayers, Medicine, Morale & Leadership

Background: (Narrative via dialogue)

An orphan, Luitwin was training to become a full-fledged Warrior Priest within a remote temple somewhere in Stirland. His simple life of prayer and hardship was torn from him by a herd of Beastmen that attacked and razed both a nearby village and his temple while he was absent. All were slain.

He has vowed to rejoin the priesthood only after he has tracked down these vile beasts and put them to the sword, as he feels he has failed his duties by being absent and is determined to prove that he is capable of becoming a true Warrior Priest.

Visual Description: (For in-engine character creator)

Young and almost ‘green’ looking with a small, simple scar to prove previous experience with combat - basic acolyte visuals, shaved head, clean shaven face, and a rigid/devout way of speaking.

Design theory: Progression (Elevator Pitch)
The story opens with a basic quest for vengeance, with a clearly defined enemy.

Soon after, the defined enemy becomes ambiguous, a story of betrayal throwing the character into a moral crisis and dejection.

Finally, through the players' help, the companion will either emerge from this state of despair stronger and grateful to the player, or could remain broken or even disappear from the world depending on player choices.

Narrative Outline: Three-Stage Act (summary)

Act 1:

The player meets the companion and finds the potential companion very closed off regarding himself

The character offers to work for or alongside the player, given that the player promises to help him on his quest for vengeance, but refuses to go into much detail

After some time passes, the character approaches the player regarding the start of his narrative quest-chain. Explaining to the player that he has discovered new evidence, he asks to cash in on the player's promise. The player can accept and start the quest chain or refuse and lose the character (leaving the party)
